Dwayne Atlas

This work documents a glimpse into the life of Dwayne Atlas, a painter who brings his paintings on to the streets. I first encountered Dwyane while photographing the streets of Soho. When I asked if I could take a photo of him, he immediately began posing, not in a performative way but there was an instinctual confidence that radiated off him. What began with a single spontaneous shot, drew me into visiting him again. His authenticity and freedom reminded me of the embodiment of a true artist, the essential fact that true art exists in the courageous act of being unconstrained, authentic, and truthful.
